Note: We have submitted our application to the IDOE for accreditation and are awaiting approval. We are hopeful that our families will have access to school choice scholarships, but may not know until July, 2024. We encourage all to apply and not let the cost of tuition be a deterrent.

  • As of Jan 1, 2023, Indiana has increased the 20% tax credit for College 529 plan contributions to $1,500.  Additionally, K-12 private school tuition has been considered a qualifying withdrawal and exempt from both federal and state (IN) taxes since 2018.  Taken together, these two changes in recent years effectively make it possible for Indiana taxpayers to save 20% on private K-12 tuition by using the tax benefits of a College 529 plan!

Quick math on $7,500 Chesterton tuition for 2024/25:

    • Invest $7,500 into CollegeChoice529 by Dec 31, 2023

    • Receive $1,500 back as a credit on state tax return in Feb/Mar 2024

    • Use $7,500 tax-free disbursement to pay tuition by August 1, 2024

    • Net cost of tuition = $6,000

If you do not have a student in 2024/25, contributing to a College 529 plan and receiving the 20% tax credit is still a great choice to begin saving for future K-12 tuition or future higher education expenses.  It is advisable to consult a local tax professional to determine your personal tax situation.
